Sutherland Shire to host NSW State Netball Championships
The Sutherland Shire Netball Association is to host the NSW Netball Championships on the long weekend from Saturday 9th to Monday 11th of June at the association’s venue in Bellingara Road, Miranda.
Associations from across the State will be competing in the 17, 19 & Under, Opens, Over 35’s & 40’s Divisions. This spectacle is expected to attract at least 2000 people for the tournament.
Sutherland’s own Holly Martin from Sutherland’s State League team and Green Point will
be singing the anthem at the opening ceremony.
Shortly after the State Championships Sutherland’s junior teams will be competing at the State Age Championships at Campbelltown.
At the recent National Under Age Championship two of Sutherland’s players Lauren Russell (19’s) and April Letton (17’s) were selected in the Australian Junior Development Squads. U13s fly high as Sharks bite Penrith
The Under 13s led off a great Round 15 for the Sharks against Penrith Nepean at home. The 13s scored 6 goals to nil making 11 goals to nil in the last two rounds. As a result the Sharks are equal on top points with Blacktown City Demons.
The Under 18s also scored 6 goals although they let in two from their opponents. With the 5 goals the team scored in the last round this team is now also a spectator's dream. The team now lies in third place.
The 16s had a 2 - 1 win thereby retaining 4th place. Draws to the 14s and 15s against higher placed Penrith sides completed a good day for the Sharks.

Sharks Under 13: won 6 nil
Sharks Under 14: drew nil all
Sharks Under 15: drew 1 all
Sharks Under 16: won 2 - 1
Sharks Under 18: won 6 – 2 Sharks outshoot Hunters in WABL
The Sharks WABL basketball teams had a good day against the Hunters last Saturday. In a closely fought game the table topping Sharks men held out the fourth placed Newcastle team 84 to 77. Cameron Tovey top scored for the Sharks with 22 while Rod Proctor snared 19.
The Sharks women scored their second win of the season by a convincing 71 to 56. Eva Afeaki continued her good form top scoring with 24 points for the home side.
