The focus of the program is to get schools to rethink the ways boys’ education is approached through a series of practical programs. The program provides teachers with strategies to adjust teaching practices, to engage the boys and help improve their motivation and learning outcomes.
The program has now reached the Sutherland Shire with Bonnet Bay Public School securing a grant of $30,000.
A key element of the “Success for Boys” program is providing role models and mentors and it is envisaged that the Program will be conducted both in and out of school.
Role models such as local Darren Marton have achieved amazing success with his No-Way anti-drugs campaign. With ongoing co-operation between schools and the community, it is believed that the “Success for Boys” Program will help ensure that no young Australian is left behind in the classroom.

Investing in Our Schools
Funding for independent and private schools in the Shire from the Federal Government continues with St John Bosco College Engadine, St Patrick’s College Sutherland and St Patrick’s Primary School Sutherland each receiving $25,000 in grants.
St John Bosco College will use the additional monies for new electric fans and new curtains, while St Patrick’s College Sutherland and St Patrick’s Primary School Sutherland will invest in new classroom furniture and IT equipment respectively.
The funding is part of the Government’s “Investing in our Schools” Program. Federal Member for Hughes, Dana Vale, said that the program is a valuable initiative, delivering much needed benefits to Catholic schools in the Shire.
Mrs Vale said that the Australian Government recognises the importance of providing facilities that enhance the educational experiences of our children. This funding is part of the commitment given in the 2004 Federal Election campaign and a demonstration of their commitment to a strong and effective school system for students in the Shire and for all young Australians.
