Only Sutherland’s 15s get points in Premier Youth League

Sutherland’s under 15 Premier Youth League team moved in to 4th spot after a close encounter with Wollongong last weekend. Before the match both teams were sitting on 25 points and a place in the top five was up for grabs. Sutherland made the most of their chances to snatch the match 3 – 2 and move to 4th position. Wollongong dropped to 6th.
In an otherwise tough day at home at Seymour Shaw Park, Miranda the Sutherland Premier Youth League soccer teams could only pick up the 15s win out of the five games played. The 14s, who are in second position were surprising losers by 2 nil to Wollongong who are now 5th. Despite their loss to the table topping Wollongong side the Sharks 18s are still in third position, although they have played more games than their nearest rivals in the top 5.
Results for the round 16 played last weekend against Wollongong FC were:
Under 13: Sutherland lost 4 - 1
Under 14: Sutherland lost 2 nil
Under 15: Sutherland won 3 - 2
Under 16: Sutherland lost 4 - 1
Under 18: Sutherland lost 1 nil

The next round is to be played from Saturday 27th June with the Sutherland Sharks Premier Youth League teams taking on Marconi Stallions at the Seymour Shaw Park beginning with the under 13s at 9am.

Canberra too strong for Sutherland in basketball

The Sutherland Sharks womens’s WABL basketball team travelled to Canberra last weekend to take on the Nationals. Unfortunately for Sutherland the Nationals got the jump on the visitors taking the first two quarters by 19 – 11 and 21 – 13 to lead by 16 at the main break. While the Sharks finished strongly winning the second half by 25 – 20 the early deficit was too much. The Nationals thereby won the game by 60 – 49.

Top scorers for the Sharks were Courtney Dean with 14 while Billie Stevens, Amelie Smith and Jacki Nicholson each collected 7 points. Best for the Nationals were Taylor Jansen (17) and Nicole Graham (11)

The Sharks men did not play last weekend in the WABL as their round 14 game against Manly had been played on June 2 – won by ladder leaders Manly 84 - 63. They currently sit in 7th spot but have the same number of wins as 5th placed Bankstown Bruins and 6th team Hornsby Spiders and so could easily move quickly up the ladder when these teams have further byes.

Both Sharks teams have byes this weekend. For more Sutherland Shire Basketball stories go to: http://sutherlandshire.sportslive.com.au/index.pl?page=2131.
