Sutherland Sharks maul Tigers in Premier Youth League Soccer

Sutherland Premier Youth League fans had very satisfying trips to Lambert Park last weekend. On Saturday day ANZAC Day the 15s, 16s and 18s all had comprehensive wins. Because of ANZAC Day the early games (13s and14s) had been rescheduled to the Sunday with the Sharks winning in the 13s and drawing the 14s.

Best placed Sutherland Sharks team is the under 15s who are currently in the play-off five in 5th position. Results of Round 8 between the Sutherland Sharks and Sydney Tigers at Lambert Park were:
Under 13: Sutherland Sharks won 1 nil
Under 14: Sutherland Sharks drew 2 all
Under 15: Sutherland Sharks won 3 -1
Under 16: Sutherland Sharks won 3 nil
Under 18: Sutherland Sharks won 4 nil

Next Saturday May 2, the Sutherland Sharks Premier Youth League teams take on Bonnyrigg White Eagles at Seymour Shaw Park beginning with the under 13s at 9am.

Manly storm home to defeat Sharks women in WABL

Almost defying their 9th position on the Waratah Australian Basketball League (WABL) table, the Sharks women led 3rd placed Manly Warringah Sea Eagles at the end of the third quarter last weekend.

The Sea Eagles had just led at the main break by 34 – 32 but then the Sharks were stronger in the third quarter by 20 -13 to go into the final quarter leading by 52 – 47. However the Sea Eagles were not to be denied, coming home strongly to take the game by 68 – 63. Top scorers for the Sharks were Peta Keen (19), Merle Hall (17), Courtney Dean (8) and Jacki Nicholson (8). Erin Lorenzi was the standout for the Eagles with 26 points while Kaia Hammond picked up 15. 

The Sharks men had a bye last weekend and take on the Hills Hornets at Sutherland Basketball Stadium at 7pm at Sutherland Basketball Stadium. Sutherland Sharks in NSW basketball silver medal win

The NSW Metropolitan Under 18 Men's basketball team, containing Sutherland Sharks Basketball Association junior representatives Daniel Hill and Cameron Stewart, has returned from the Australian Championships with a silver medal. The NSW Metropolitan Under 18 Women's team, containing Sutherland Sharks junior representative Lauren Nicholson, finished in fifth position in the women's division.

Nicholson became ill during the preliminary rounds and was not able to play in the qualifying games but finished the tournament with highly impressive personal statistics of 71 points, 14 boards, 12 assists, 5 steals and 4 blocked shots, with a high of 27 points in the preliminary rounds against QLD South.
Hill had stats of 94 points, 30 boards, 20 assists and 16 steals, with his best game a 20-point haul against WA Metro, whilst Stewart had 9 points, 15 boards, 11 assists, 5 steals and 1 blocked shot for the tournament.

Over 6700 people have registered for the World Masters games in Sydney on October 10 -18, 2009. Over 28 sports will cater for participants of varying standards and ages. For example, tennis has singles, doubles and mixed doubles in ten year age brackets from 30+ to 80+ with A grade for competition players and B grade for social players and beginners.
