Face up to it, your skin is important

Keeping your skin in good shape remains an everyday task that should not be allowed to be ignored says award winning make up artist and beauty specialist Heidi Yi whose recently released book ‘pro make up by heidi’ further emphasises the need for proper attention to skin care

Heidi says it is important for women to keep abreast of new developments and changes in skin care to ensure they continue to “look the best you can possibly be”.

With 11 years’ experience as a make up artist working across many disciplines of the beauty industry, Heidi has been a corporate beauty trainer, worked in salons and as a bridal make up specialist as well as a makeup artist for major fashion and beauty magazines.

What’s more, the highly acclaimed brides nominated Heidi as “best wedding supplier” in Australian Bridal Industry Academy in NSW and Queensland for the past three years and she recently won “Make up Artist of the Year” for POLA Cosmetics.

Her passion for beauty products began in the mid ‘90s which led her to complete a Diploma of Beauty Therapy. This led her to further her education with a successful post graduate training program comprising 100 hours of skin and body therapies.

On completion Heidi was presented with the International Dermal Institute Post Graduate Diploma in 2006, which is recognised around the world.

Heidi was initially trading her business as Something Beautiful by Heidi, in 2007 her mineral makeup range was named SB by Heidi and, due to its expansion, she is now trading as Heidi Y Cosmetics Pty Ltd and has rebranded her products to Heidi Yi.

She says that when creating her book “pro make up by heidi” she didn’t realise how much of herself she had poured into it.

“It is the everyday woman’s beauty companion,” she says, “full of hints and tips for maintaining beautiful skin no matter what climatic conditions we may live in.”

Setting Heidi apart from her counterparts is that both her range and the book are utterly all–Australian and her distributor, who has exclusive distribution rights across 200 retailers nationally, is on record as suggesting the book is “a rarity in the market” because of its particular Australian emphasis.

Heidi stresses that the book was not written with her make up range in mind, and it was not until after she started writing the book that the opportunity to have her own make up range even presented itself.

In fact, it was while she was researching the book that she stumbled on a cosmetic retailer who loved what she was trying to do and who expressed an interest in working with her. But unfortunately the deal fell through half way through production.

“I feel like I created a mini miracle with this book. Finding models, photographers, designers, editors and so on was hard work, but all the effort was worth it,” she says.

Mineral Make – up great for your skin

Heidi is a great fan of mineral make up for your skin as it has no harmful chemicals, is light in texture and is perfect for sensitive skin.

Heidi Yi is a user-friendly mineral make up range, which continues to grow in popularity.

The more organic approach to skin care, she says, which offers a chemical free and more natural look had its roots in the USA, and she is one of only a few experts in her field that has run with the new approach.

Now that she has settled Heidi is in love with her new home and her recent marriage to John, along with her business interests, are giving her a new sense of freedom.
