Cawsey Shield team leads way in junior cricket

After its comprehensive win over Manly Warringah last weekend, Sutherland junior cricket’s Cawsey Shield team (under 12) now has two wins from two in NSW Cricket’s Inter-Association Shield competition. Sutherland’s T Doyle had a very good all round performance scoring 47 in his team’s 7/181 and then took 3 wickets for 4 runs in Manly’s innings of 79.

The under 13 team had a bye while the under 15 team (Weblin Shield had a one wicket loss to Penrith. Results of the second round shield games from under 12 to under 16 were:

Under 12 (Cawsey Shield):
Sutherland 7/181 (A Roberts 30, T Doyle 47) defeated Manly Warringah 79 (T Doyle 3 / 4)
Sutherland has won two from two games.

Under 13 (Gee Shield):
Sutherland – bye

Under 14 (Moore Shield):
Sutherland 104 (H Smith 34) lost to Bankstown 8/164 (R Agar 3/22)

Under 15 (Weblin Shield):
Sutherland 127 lost to Penrith 9/128 (B Ford 4/23)

Under 16 (Watson Shield):
Sutherland 77 lost to Penrith 3/314

Locals perform well in Round 1 of NSW SURF PREMIERSHIP

Round 1 of the Surf Premiership involving many local surfers was battled out in testing weather conditions at Towradgi on November 1. Round 2 at Wanda on November 29 will bring athletes closer to the $11,000 in prize money.

Cronulla Surf Club had a great meet with Hayden Allum winning the open iron man while Sarah Cook performed well in the Beach sprints picking up the under 19 beach sprint. Cronulla’s Shivaun Street picked up first place in the under 14 female surf race while team mate Kyle Druery won the under 13 male surf race.

In the Surf Board races, Cronulla again did well with Lucy Ford taking out the under 15 female event and Kyle O’Brien winning the under 17 male competition.

Round 2 is to be held at Wanda SLSC on November 29, while round 3 is at Redhead SLSC on January 3, 2009. Round 2 entries will close at 5pm Wednesday 19 November 2008, while Round 3 entries will close at 5pm Wednesday 24 December 2008.
