With Labor dirt files in overdrive this week, the avalanching of public opinion has snowballed and the backlash has hit local government pretty hard, where there are still more local government elections to be had. State Labor only has itself to blame, who holds a party for a budget, especially this one?
Meanwhile news on the state’s finances and infrastructure gets progressively worse and it will be at least two years before we get a say on the issue.
With the infighting and constantly changing face of NSW politics on both sides who needs an election every three years when we are likely to get a new leader for both parties anyway.
The new Premier’s solution to all NSW woes is to raise taxes and cut services, which is hardly an inventive solution but it has to be better than selling everything.
It seems every budget more money is spent on road, rail and buses but there are still major traffic problems throughout Greater Sydney and inadequate roads and rail and across the state. The only logical conclusion is the very structure of government and services is inadequate or inept.
I am sure that the ultimate direction the state takes will show the true mettle of Nathan Rees. If he can make the infrastructure of bureaucracy more efficient, hopefully the rest of the state will follow. |
