Seeing Stars
by Patricia Shepherd

For the week beginning 18th August

The Astrological Mars

LEO

The Sun moves out of your sign on Saturday and before he does he makes a lovely little trine to Pluto, the dwarf planet of rejuvenation. Learn to use your talents and how to capitalise on your capabilities. Achieve self-mastery

VIRGO

If you care to take the time and trouble there is an opportunity to increase your overall emotional growth this week. There may be things you have become attached to that are hindering your self-sufficiency.  Define your own life.

LIBRA

Mars moves into your sign and will occupy your solar first house for the next 6/7 weeks giving you a well-needed boost of energy. Perhaps it is time for that trip to hairdressers or beauticians, things are looking up.

SCORPIO

Our Scorpions may need to develop a bit of a wait and see attitude as Mars moves into the solar twelfth house. This is a behind the scenes position indicating that there is far more going on than what you are letting on. What’s new you may think.

SAGITTARIUS

If you have been putting in the hard yards then you may receive the acknowledgement and recognition you justly deserve. Hopefully these rewards will also extend to your bank account. Gaining credit.

CAPRICORN

Long hours of work and study has been known to effect a persons health so don’t forget to take time out for a bit of recreation and release. There is no need to feel guilty about this for if your health goes so too everything else.

AQUARIUS

A chance meeting has you looking at things from a different perspective. This may make you feel very uncomfortable for some time as you struggle to accommodate and incorporate it into your life. Needs fermenting.

PISCES

Collaboration with others helps you gain the benefits you need. Initially the strong support serves to motivate and from this a bonding may occur that then paves the way for a mutually supportive network.

ARIES

As Mars (drive) moves into your opposite sign of Libra and therefore your solar seventh house you can expect your relationships to be a major focus for the next six or seven weeks. Work on it.

TAURUS

Those of you with teenage children may find that they need your love and support even more now as they negotiate the school exam systems and the results. Give them the courage and faith they require. Don’t wait to be asked.

GEMINI

When Mercury and Venus align thoughts generally turn to love so you may find yourself thinking about relationships. Don’t be surprised though if you can’t or feel nervous about expressing those thoughts.

CANCER

Disruptions in the early part of the week cause arguments because of the uncertainty that is generated. You can either aggravate the situation or initiate discussions on how best to deal with it.

THE ASTROLOGICAL MARS

The astronomical Mars has an orbital period of approximately 678 days and around every two years retrogrades for approximately 2 months.

Astrologically Mars signifies our ability to assert ourselves and a good way of demonstrating this is to watch a child reach the age known as ‘the terrible twos’. This is the first time that Mars by transit comes back to its natal position and we see the energy expressed in a raw form. Successful navigation of this time helps enormously because we learn to how to be ourselves and still get on with others.

“Aggression is not necessarily destructive at all. It springs from an innate tendency to master life, which seems to be characteristic of all living matter. Only when this life force is obstructed in its development do ingredients of anger, rage or hate become connected with it”. Clara Thomson

Mars is an antisocial planet, a personal planet it serves me, rather than society and we gain an understanding of this by looking at the Greek God Ares why this is so. Created by the goddess Hera parthenogenically (without fertilisation), he has no father. This was as a pay back to her husband Zeus who produced Athena out of his head. The mythical image of Ares represents our basic instincts to survive. Having no father principle he is unable to rationalise and although male he is pure instinct without any reflective or symbolising capacity. How often have we read of or experienced those amazing feats of strength or bravery that would normally seem impossible.

Mars indicates how we express ourselves in a physical sense, triggering competitiveness, and the ability to go after that which we desire. It is gives us the ability, or lack of, to achieve our goals in real terms. Just as Venus in a males chart is indicative of the type of woman he finds attractive, Mars in a female’s horoscope indicates the type of energy in a man she is attracted to.
