Christmas in July(August) which took place on the South Coast last week.

It's not often you see a hills hoist covered in snow.

Anyone for a Barbeque?
If the worsening drought or extended bush fire season didn’t convince you that our climate is changing, then this surely will. Snow fell last week on the South Coast, just a 10 minute drive to the beach. The odd snow-fall in the southern and central areas of the state may be unusual, but the sudden cold snap and fall so close to the coast is definitely in the extreme category.
No doubt some sceptics will still be waiting for cyclones to hit Sydney before entertaining the idea of climate change but for the rest of us this is one of the few friendly reminders that something is definitely happening with the weather patterns.

The Olympics
It’s been a while since the Olympics has garnered such political heat for a host nation. Freedom of speech, a free press, the right to protest, the right to vote, clean air, these aren’t words we have come to associate with China. But the ideals of freedom and equality are the hallmarks of the Olympics.
When the problems with China were first raised by the World’s press the IOC in defending it’s decision, talked about the progress China had made and the belief that China would open up to the world. The commercial opportunities of Beijing has instead made the world conform to Chinese law. It might even be fair to say that the Chinese Government has become even more determined to control every aspect of their citizens’ lives.
We can’t blame the Chinese Government for being the Chinese Government. It’s not like these problems arose from another cultural revolution in the years leading up to the Olympics. The IOC has definitely sold out. How can the Olympic charter be taken seriously when the IOC is so ready to turn its back on its own traditions?
In the past the Olympic movement has never been able to change the societal fabric of the host country and the policies of its government, so how could the IOC ever expected it to do so in 2008?
