Mick Cassar – Mick’s Family Quality Meats

Catering for the local community and family traditions

Mick Cassar is Mick’s Family Quality Meats, situated on Anzac Rd Engadine at the Anzac Oval shops.

Mick loves his business and he loves his customers. And when you hear him say that what he loves most about his business, is the friendly customers, you really believe him.

Mick bought the existing business just on 2 years ago after a long and thorough search. He says what eventually drew him to the location was the community atmosphere and spirit and the opportunity to work with a community within a community, that being the other businesses already situated in the complex.

Mick also knew the business had enormous potential and that changes were necessary, so he immediately overhauled the shop interior with a complete renovation, which provided greater viewing glass and display area for his customers. He re-arranged the shop layout so as to make it easier for him to provide better service, communicate better with customers and provide extra space for his staff to work in.

He attributes much of his success to being organized. He says that he fits everything in around his work and that having set hours, as far as when the shop opens, allows him to stay on top of the other areas of the business that go on behind the scenes which most people don’t see.

He quickly identifies that his customers have been the most positive influence on him with the constant feedback and the repeat business he gets. He said that his business is more than just about providing meat and specialty dishes. He said he tries to provide his customers with an overall experience and has been known to whip a serving or make the odd Beef Wellington at short notice.

He supports and provides meat for the raffle trays of local clubs and pubs, trays for local sporting organizations and other business and community services.

Mick said that he is looking at new sauces and flavours to complement the variety of meats he provides his customers. He feels that by adding new things helps keep the customers interested, allows them to try different things and also keeps him on top of his trade.

Mick said that he has a passion for car racing, especially the V8 Super Cars. He also likes go to footy but in a complete paradox to his love of noise and speed he also likes to go fishing, as a way of winding down and getting away from it all.

Dean loves living in the Sutherland Shire. In fact he was born, raised and schooled in the Shire and currently lives with his young family at Engadine. In his younger days he was an accomplished sportsperson and is still actively involved in local amateur sports administration. He operates his own business in the area and is keen to support and promote the wider community in any way.
